Weekly Report 5: 9/28-10/05
Current status of project:
The team had a meeting last week to discuss moving forward into the second portion of the semester. The group discussed the components of the device that required further analysis as well as main categories for concept generation. We have decided that concept generation will be performed as a group, but have divided up individual research responsibilities to maximize our time during the research process. Shilpi will analyze specific materials for the device as well as the control method (motion sensor, light sensor, timer for sun, etc.). Molly will analyze the optimal position of the sensor (fixed vs. non-fixed, on side vs. on top) as well as mechanical design of the device. Kelsey will analyze the potential power sources (replaceable batteries, solar power, USB host, etc.) and will analyze the optimal communication style for the device (wireless vs. non-wireless).
Work planned for next week:
The group plans to meet continuously to develop concepts and share research progress. Pugh charts will eventually be made for the analysis listed above. Information on potential necessary materials to be ordered will be acquired. The group will e-mail the client to set up a meeting time to discuss project progress and client satisfaction following the first report.
Anything needed from client or TA or instructor to continue work:
Nothing at the moment.
